NEW SAMHSA Resources! College Drinking: Prevention Perspectives Discussion Guides for Campus Communities

SAMHSA introduces two new discussion guides to use with the College Drinking: Prevention Perspectives video series! The videos highlight how college-focused prevention strategies were successfully implemented on campuses to reduce underage and problem drinking. The new discussion guides provide an overview of key themes and strategies in each episode, as well as conversation starters to spark discussions within your college community about alcohol.

  • The video “Lessons Learned at Frostburg State University” provides insight into how Frostburg State University successfully worked with the community to reduce underage and high-risk drinking among the student population. The new discussion guide for the video provides insights on building college and community partnerships and encourages viewers to talk about ways they can leverage these strategies in their own community.

  • The video “Embracing Culture and Context to Prevent Underage Drinking” shows how historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) embrace their rich culture and the student body’s lived experiences to create prevention strategies to meet the unique needs of their community. The discussion guide highlights how HBCUs—as well as other institutions that primarily serve students from a distinct background, region, or culture—can approach underage drinking prevention.
